Weaving, knitting, and non-woven applications make Thread Technology a fundamental cornerstone of textile engineering. The aim of this department is to cultivate textile experts who, using a blend of their skills, knowledge, and cutting-edge techniques, can meet the market’s challenges and guarantee product excellence to satisfy contemporary demands. As the birthplace of textile education in Bangladesh, we take pride in our contribution to the nation’s success story as one of the largest Ready-Made Garment (RMG) exporters. Concurrently, we acknowledge our duty to sustain this success. Therefore, we nurture tight-knit connections with the industry, staying informed about upcoming challenges and bridging gaps by updating our syllabuses and, consequently, our graduates. About The Department
The Department of Fabric Engineering is a fundamental branch of textile engineering, with its applications spanning weaving, knitting, and non-woven textiles. This department is dedicated to developing engineers leveraging their knowledge, skills, and the latest technologies to meet market challenges and ensure product quality. The department’s curriculum is carefully structured to give students a comprehensive understanding of fabric engineering. It offers both B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees in Textile Engineering, focusing on Fabric. The department has several core laboratories, including the Weaving Preparatory Process Lab, Weaving Lab, Knitting Lab, Fabric Structure and Design Lab, Fabric Testing Lab, and a newly installed CCI Lab. The department’s courses are designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the textile industry, including the design and control of all aspects of fiber production. Students gain experience in plant design and layout, machine and wet process design and improvement, and designing and creating textile products. Textile engineers from this department are involved in every aspect of textile production, from the procurement of raw materials to the final stages of apparel production. They are responsible for ensuring the quality of the industry’s fabrics, yarns, and apparel. The department also maintains close ties with the industry, facilitating regular industry visits with students to provide them with real-world exposure and practical experience. This close relationship with the industry allows the department to stay abreast of upcoming industry trends and challenges, ensuring that its curriculum and graduates are always relevant and ready to meet the demands of the textile industry.
